The first high-level dialogue under the China-Germany dialogue and cooperation mechanism on climate change and green transition
On June 22, 2024, Mr. Zheng Shanjie, the Director of the National Development and Reform Commission of China, met with Mr. Robert Habeck, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, in Beijing to jointly hold the first high-level dialogue under the China-Germany dialogue and cooperation mechanism on climate change and green transition. Mr. Henning Vogelsang, the chief representative of Baden-Württemberg in China, participated in this dialogue as the state’s representative.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the sister-state relationship between Jiangsu Province and the state of Baden-Württemberg. Since the establishment of this relationship, both sides have achieved fruitful outcomes in the fields of trade and economy, energy conservation and environmental protection, science and technology, as well as culture and education. Notable projects include the Sino-German energy conservation project in Jintan, the Sino-German Energy Efficiency and Low-Carbon Network Group Taicang Pilot Project, and the TRENT (Transnational Competence Center for Environmental Technology and Research Jiangsu Baden-Württemberg) Project in Suzhou.
Building on these successful collaborations, several key outcomes from the dialogue were announced, including the launch of the Sino-German provincial-level cooperation on green transition. This initiative, supported by the National Development and Reform Commission of China and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, will foster exchanges and cooperation between Jiangsu and Baden-Württemberg, as well as Sichuan and North Rhine-Westphalia in relevant fields.
